Each January the City of Irving holds a special event to recognize and appreciate the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This annual observance takes place at the Irving Arts Center Opens a New Window. , and features a variety of music and dances performed by the Dallas Black Dance Theatre.

ESSAY CONTEST
This year, the City of Irving will host an essay contest promoting the theme “United Together.” There will be three age categories: grades 3-5, grades 6-8 and grades 9-12. Judging will be based on clarity, grammar and how well the theme is developed depending on the age of the writer. The essay should be no more than a page in length or 500 words.

Deadline for entry is Jan. 4.
